RY and the Speed Egg

Rob Yuen, or simply RY is a true "Surf Gypsy." Surfer, fisherman, drift boat guide, and arborist, Rob leaves his home in Southern Oregon every winter for an extended surf expedition to Central Baja. One of his favorite "tools" has been his Eight0 Speed Egg. Returning from one of his dozens of trips to The Wall, Rob had me shape him the first version of this design in 2000 - extremely low rocker, simple round pin template, tri-plane to vee convex bottom, with a cool single fin / side bite fin configuration. The "Speed Egg" is a versatile surfboard that carves and planes in a very wide range of surf venues and conditions. This spring Rob had me shape a second generation Speed Egg. At Seven8 the new Speed Egg will be more maneuverable, offer tighter radius turns, yet maintain the glide that is key to it's function. RY spent the last several weeks fine tuning fins for his second generation Speed Egg. Always the master, RY recently reminded me that "style is free!"

Six2 Redtail Pocket Rocket

6' 2" Performance Short Board
This is a fundamental design for every condition until a surfer requires more board to handle the demands of more significant waves. This design is a squash tail. It features a "Speed Box" rocker. The bottom features a hint of "vee" in the entry transitioning to a shallow single concave at the wide point to a significant single concave in front of the fin array. The concave fades through the fins and tail. Core and rail volume are tuned to the displacement requirements of the surfer.
